Welcoming Keisha Hearn: A Heart for Community, A Calling to Serve
Hello, my name is Keisha Hearn. I was raised in South Carolina, and I am a Southern girl at heart. Growing up in the South taught me that manners are highly valued—and that while many people identify as Christians, not everyone truly follows Christ. Because of that, learning to genuinely know Him became a deep passion of mine.
My testimony begins here: I was done with playing Christian—I wanted to truly know Christ. And when I sought Him, I found Him.
A couple of friends at school invited me to “First Priority,” and it was there that I realized my faith didn’t have to be my parents’—it could be my own. I began to understand that Jesus wanted a relationship, not rules. He desired intimacy, not religion. Through that group and the love I experienced there, He showed me that life with Him could be full and even joyful—that true peace comes from being known by Him, not from trying to please people.
There was a moment at a retreat that I will never forget. The teacher placed a makeshift plank in front of us and said, “Jump. Choose today that He will be the one you go all in with.” That night, I made a decision: no matter what the Lord asked of me, I would give Him my whole heart. I committed my life to following Him and to sharing His love with others.
From that point on, my life became intricately woven with what the Lord had planned for me.
In college, He began placing human trafficking on my heart—but each time, I sensed Him saying, “Not yet.” Then in 2023, it felt like a storm. He flooded my heart with a clear and overwhelming message: “It’s time.”
When I met Ked from Safe Places, I knew in my spirit that I belonged. I had long carried a burden to see those trapped in the sex industry set free. During a trip to Brazil, I looked into the eyes of young girls who had been used for their bodies as if they had no souls. They were treated like commodities, not people. The fear and pain they carried stayed with me—and I found myself pleading with the Lord to use me.
During that season, He began waking me in the night, bringing me to the Book of Isaiah 61:1–5—calling me to help heal the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom, and set captives free.
So you can imagine what it meant to me when the Lord connected me with Safe Places.
It is truly my privilege to serve as Client and Community Engagement Coordinator. In this role, I have the opportunity to connect churches and the broader community, inviting them into this fight against human trafficking as we work together to further the Kingdom of God.
My heart is to see believers step beyond the walls of the church and become the hands and feet of Jesus—to reach those who feel unseen, to remind those who are bound that they are deeply loved, and to simply pause long enough to learn someone’s name… because it matters.
It is my prayer to see Safe Places Miami flourish like a green laurel beside streams of living water—rooted, thriving, and life-giving.
I am not here for Safe Places to simply produce numbers, but to see hearts transformed by the power of God—our hearts, the women we serve, the church, and even those in positions of leadership.
May the Lord be glorified in all that we do, and may we do it as unto Him.
