I’d Rather Work a 9-5 Than Sell My Soul
She got in my car and I knew her hope was strong. She wanted to be safe and free. She wanted to be seen and loved. Little did I know, but this woman would start the trajectory of other women being rescued. She was brave and had the heart to fight.
As we were driving, she looked at me with pain in her voice. "I'd rather work a 9-5 than to sell my soul." That hit my heart like a ton of bricks! She felt like being sold was like selling her soul; having to comply, having to please, having to be used as if she didn't have value.
This beautiful woman had been stripped of her dignity and treated as if she was something that could be owned. But there is one person who has paid the price to own us and He paid it with his blood - Jesus Christ!
Over the next several days, my heart was - how do I bring love like Christ without judgment and shame? I truly desired to listen to her stories and look into her eyes and give her the only person that would heal her from the pain inside.
In these moments, I must ask myself. Who do I want her to remember, me or the Jesus in me? Setting aside myself and my desires and wants to serve her became a heart posture. Giving God all the glory became necessary and praying for her became crucial.
I was reminded that we are utterly helpless without our savior and until we come to know Him, we cannot give to others what we don't have. Until we meet love, we can not give love. Until we meet peace, faithfulness, kindness and gentleness - we simply can not give these.
To serve well is to know HIM, to love well is to know HIM. Knowing HIM takes a lifetime. Join us in the ministry of giving Christ to these women, but first tend your heart so that out of your overflow can come life!
